On the other hand, modeling is necessary when we want to achieve a goal, and there is still no process, or it exists but needs to be developed. It is possible to do both simultaneously, but if you already have a process, and want to know what is happening in the company, you should start mapping.
Essential steps for mapping business processes
It is important for you to know that there is no single method to accomplish this mission. But, here is the step by step guide that we consider essential in Aerospace Companies process mapping.
Identify the types of processes you want to map
The first step is to select the processes you want to detail. What types are they? What other processes happen in parallel for them to be successful? Which departments does the process go through and how can the work of one impact the other? Answer these questions for a clearer view of your challenges.
Define the objective
This is one of the main steps that you must count in when process mapping – defining the objective. First of all, determine the purpose of your processes. You can organize yourself by answering the following questions – what does it exist for? What are the outputs of the processes?
Steps and conditionals
What steps are necessary for the process to be successful, and what are the conditions for it to proceed? Define the necessary inputs: Documents? Dice? Information? We call these conditionals business rules, and each company has its own.
When should the process begin and end? How long should it take at most and how often are they repeated? Generally, companies aim to make the process faster by identifying repetitive tasks that can be automated.
Determine responsible and review
Define the roles of each participant in the process. Who are the people responsible for each stage? Who will be required to approve, monitor, follow up and demand action when necessary? A good way to build your workflows is to use appropriate symbols for this. That done, it’s time to review, test and optimize your workflows. Check that everything is correct, show it to the people involved to find out if it really matches reality.
