The Right way to Use Robocopy To back up your Data in Windows 10

But if you are still conscientious about the security of your files and folders, then you should keep an additional copy of data files with you. Once you know how the script functions which switches are important, you can use Notepad, type the command and save the file under “RobocopyBackup.cmd”. In order to ensure that the script and open log file do not collide with the backup, you can create a folder in the root directory and save the script there.

You will get the log file in the same directory of the script after every backup operation. Always remember while the log file is a plain text file, it can be bigger for the Notepad to handle. Hence, you should use WordPad or any other Word file to open and see the log file.

And, whenever you wish to create an additional backup, you just have to double click on the RobocopyBackup.cmd to initiate it. When the task is done, you can evaluate the backup.log file. You should use task scheduler to run Robocopy on its own on a periodic basis if you like.
