Skincare 101: Tips for Treating Acne

Acne affects 50 million Americans every year. Yet, it’s not always easy to treat.

Don’t worry though, there are a few simple things you can do to make sure your acne stays away for good. It’s time for skincare 101!

Ready to learn? Keep reading to find out the best skin care tips for treating acne.

Wash Your Face

Okay, you’ve probably heard this one before, but it’s super important! For optimal results, wash your face twice daily and after workouts if you get sweaty.

And if you wear makeup, try to double cleanse. This means that you should remove your makeup with an oil cleanser or micellar water and then wash your face. If you need some cleansers but don’t know what to buy, anything simple and fragrance-free is always a win.

Wear Sunscreen

Even if it’s the dead of winter, it is advised you wear sunscreen every day. This will not only help get rid of your acne but will also reduce wrinkles and skin damage in the long run.

And if possible, choose an oil-free sunscreen with at least 15 SPF!

Exfoliation is great for getting rid of those dead skin cells. While it isn’t something you want to do every day, it is still highly advisable for getting rid of that pesky acne.

To achieve this, you can do a mild at-home exfoliant or even a facial peel at the spa to really clean out those pores.

Moisturize Your Face

The best skin care routine always includes moisturization.

When the skin gets dry, especially in colder months, it will overproduce oil. This results in clogged pores, leading to more acne. Even if you have oily skin, it is still recommended that you use a lightweight moisturizer.

Stay Hydrated

Everyone knows that staying hydrated is good for your body, but it is also beneficial for your face. Like moisturizers, it is another way to keep the skin hydrated and prevent it from producing too much oil.

So, if you haven’t already today, go drink some water!

Cut Back on Sugar

However delicious it may be, sugar can cause acne. This is because foods high in sugar will create a spike in insulin, making the body overproduce oil – and as you know, oil clogs pores.

So, while it hurts to say it, laying off the chocolate might be the way to go.

Talk to a Dermatologist

Even if you take awesome care of your skin, seeing a dermatologist could still be beneficial. Sometimes, acne will only start to fade with the addition of prescribed medication.

However, if you do end up adding a prescription cream or pill, still keep your skin healthy! It’s always a good idea to moisturize, wash your face, and drink water.
